the computer is quite old and one time I attempted to boot it, the motherboard began flashing orange if it might help. it would blink twice and then pause before flipping back to twice again. the pc would keep powering on and off.

Off the record, I'd suggest checking for PSU, memory, or motherboard issues. However, @Dukesilver27- has a point—we still need more details and investigation.
