I’ve been dealing with a lot of troubles for quite some time now, and it seems I’m running out of good options. Maybe someone here has faced a similar situation or knows what’s happening. A few years back, I planned to upgrade my system. I chose a Ryzen 3600x with 16GB of 3200MHz RAM, a MSI B450 motherboard, a 5700XT power supply (Corsair Gold rated), a 1TB NVMe drive, and installed Windows. After setting everything up, I played a few games without issues—until a crash occurred during one of them. At first, I brushed it off, assuming it was just a temporary glitch. Once it happened again, especially with Ubisoft titles, I didn’t pay much attention. The PC felt stable enough that I didn’t dig deeper.
Eventually, I got a PS5 and stopped using the PC for a while. Over time, my wife wanted to try a new game she’d seen online. That’s when the crashes really increased. She complained about them every day. Since it was an early access game, I thought maybe it had bugs, so I didn’t investigate much. After she grew bored, she switched to Skyrim, and I tried World of Warcraft Classic. At that point, the PC started crashing more often while playing those games.
I figured it might be the game itself, so I didn’t look too closely. Then I moved on to play WoW Classic. The PC became unstable more often, so I tried updating the BIOS and drivers—but it didn’t fix the problem. The Event Viewer showed kernel power errors and other WHEA messages. I searched online for solutions, tried many fixes, but nothing worked. Some suggested the PSU was faulty (due to a kernel power error), so I replaced it with a new Evga 750W Gold rated unit. Still, the crashes persisted.
By then, I was near the end of my warranty period. Many people said the WHEA errors were caused by a faulty CPU, so I managed to get a 5700XT instead of the 3600X. I installed the new CPU, but it still crashed. Eventually, I started testing parts from my wife’s PC. Swapping RAM and GPU didn’t help much. By then, the motherboard and SSD were out of warranty, so I decided to replace them.
I bought a new motherboard (B550) and a new NVMe drive, hoping it would solve the issue. Unfortunately, the first one I got was a DOR—had to replace it. The second one worked perfectly! That seemed to be the end of my troubles, but the crashes kept happening. I installed a new NVMe drive, thinking it might be the missing piece. But even that didn’t stop the failures.
I tried everything, but it’s still a mystery why this kept happening. Thank you for reading—I’d really appreciate any advice on how to fix this. Also, if I hadn’t mentioned it earlier, I checked everything carefully and confirmed the power supply was fine. If you’ve forgotten anything or broken any rules, please forgive me. I’m exhausted and my mind is tangled from trying to figure this out.

I know the Kingston nvme isn’t that great but I mainly bought it so I could test to see if it was the other nvme causing problems and it was cheap.
I recently encountered a comparable issue that I resolved. It turned out to be my motherboard, the original one was of poor quality and lacked overclocking support. Even after a BIOS reset, the older motherboard would still crash on my AMD build, likely due to cores shifting between idle and game mode. Once I upgraded to a new board, my MSI Meg X570 Ace Max essentially eliminated the crashes. I’d recommend checking whether your board can accommodate your current components or if it supports overclocking.
