I'm experiencing problems with my PC. It occasionally freezes unexpectedly while gaming. The screen freezes completely and sound stops. A hard reset is the only solution after freezing. All BIOS and drivers have been updated. The freezes occur randomly, and the Windows event log shows no related error messages post-freeze. I'm running out of ideas about what might be causing this. I upgraded from Windows 10 to 11 just to try fixing the issue, but it didn't help. I've tested running RAM at both XMP 1 and 2 speeds without any improvement. I also attempted to manually overclock the RAM to the same settings used in the XMP 2 profile, but it didn't work. I've replaced the RAM modules and GPU without success. I'm thinking about replacing the RAM sticks to see if they're faulty. I ran memtest86 and a Windows memory test with no errors. Freezes are very inconsistent—I can have multiple freezes in one evening or even several days without any interruption. I really value your help. My system specs are: CPU - Asus ROG STRIX Z590-F Gaming Wi-Fi, RAM - 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200, 2x 16GB in dual channel, GPU - Asus Dual RTX 2060 Super OC 8GB, SSD/HDD - two M.2 NVMe drives, one SATA SSD, OS - Windows 11 21H2, BIOS version 1701. My case is Fractal Design Define 7 Compact with three intake and three exhaust fans; the CPU cooler is Noctua NH-D15, and temperatures stay well within limits.
I faced similar problems recently where my PC would freeze even when idle. I tested both with and without oc, checked memory for errors, and found no issues. It turned out the problem was RAM. After switching to a different kit, everything worked fine. You might also try using just one stick—it’s likely just a faulty one.
I experienced a comparable problem where my PC would freeze during low-power states (almost idle). After swapping in RAM from my QVL, it stopped occurring again.
Thank you for the updates. I've already changed the ME firmware twice, yet the ALC firmware remains outdated. I just updated it now, but it doesn’t seem to solve the problem. I’m not sure if any VBIOS update is available for my GPU, and I’ve thought about using a single RAM stick instead of dual channels to preserve performance.
