I recently faced some issues with my PC after a crash. One RAM slot stopped working, so I swapped it in, but the problem worsened—now it’s quite noticeable. My motherboard has Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3200 and an 8GB X2 channel PSU (TUF B450). It seems to be overclocking the GPU, yet performance drops around 50% in games like CSGO. Internet speed is stable at about 9 Mbps with ping under 20 ms, but I’m unsure if that’s reliable. Need advice on troubleshooting or testing options.
RAM connections shouldn't simply cease functioning. Were you adjusting any CPU or RAM timings? What frequency is your RAM operating at currently? Are you using dual-channel mode? Is your BIOS current? Both CPU-Z and Ryzen Master should display the correct RAM speed. Are you encountering thermal constraints?
i didn't touch the ram in any way, timings were never changed and the case hasn't been opened for months. it blue-screened one day, wouldn't boot. i tried re-seating the ram, but when i removed it it sounded crunchy. i replaced it with another ram, but it still sounded weird. so i left it alone and ran dual channel in the other two slots, which are running at 3200.
I've assembled numerous PCs and am quite skilled in that area. The issue lies with performance testing, and I'm unsure how to identify the problem. Additionally, any attempt to adjust Ryzen settings causes the system to crash.
It seems your board has some issues. I wouldn't rely on a motherboard with a RAM port in that condition.
The setup didn’t behave as expected, so you probably won’t face performance problems from an unused slot.
