Hey, I'm trying my first time overclocking my CPU. I have an older BIOS from around 2009, and when I went into the settings for boosting performance, there were only a few choices—like the blue and white options in the Performance Booster Zone. When I tried adjusting the CPU speed, it didn’t actually change. My motherboard is a M61PB-M2S, and I’m attempting to push my AMD Phenom X4 9600 Black Edition to higher speeds.
The board information is poor. It's meant for a workstation, not a desktop. Notice the cpu frequency listed as 200mhz? Raise it for OC. Gradually. 202, 204 etc. Reset CMOS if the board stops working. Remember this will affect CPU, RAM and Northbridge all at once. HFGL.
I adjusted the frequency to 210 MHz once more and slightly raised the PCI bus speed from 100 MHz to 105 MHz. The CPU behavior remained unchanged on CPU-Z, yet oddly, when I revisit the BIOS, the CPU speed and PCI clock don’t revert to their original settings—they stay at the values I set. Since I’ve already applied the newest BIOS update, I’m unsure what’s stopping the CPU from updating its frequency.
PCIe performance should ideally run at 100MHz, but it may not make a difference. CpuZ seems off—likely incorrect. 2.1V Vcore should be around 7-8GHz. Do you have another reporting tool to verify?
not really, i can search for some other softwares that can see cpu specs, for now this is the most information i could gather from my cpu with cpu-z: https://valid.x86.fr/rll91z
Uncertain about this situation. The hardware is significantly outdated compared to the CPU revision. Have you considered using AMD overdrive? A clean Windows installation on an extra drive could also work, especially if your operating system is very old. For testing purposes, Windows 7 might be suitable.
