You're experiencing performance dips when populating M.2 slots on your Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite motherboard. This is often due to lane sharing issues, especially with high-end GPUs like the RTX 4070 Ti. The X8703 and X870 E models both support PCIe lanes, but differences in chipset and firmware can affect stability. If you're looking for a budget-friendly option, the Gigabyte Aorus X870 e/MSI Tomahawk X870e is a solid choice. For the X8703, consider its potential for better performance with proper drivers. When choosing between X870 E models, MSI typically offers more robust support and stability compared to Gigabyte.

It indicates 8x, so likely you need to remove the M.2 slot. You can check x879e options that don’t conflict with the MM2 slot.

Operating a 4070 Ti on PCIe 4.0 x8 isn't a major issue. These numbers are similar to what you'd expect from PCIe 3.0 x16. The performance drop isn't substantial—see the comparison here: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidi...s-scaling/

Sure, take a look at those block diagrams. Do they indicate that the X16 slot doesn’t share lanes with the M.2 slot? You mentioned checking both ASUS and Gigabyte, and it seems like the X870e does have lane sharing between the GPU and M.2 in both brands. The MSI model appears to be the exception. Just follow the straight line in the diagram—yes, it suggests the MSI Tomahawk X870/E doesn’t share lanes with the GPU.

Check the motherboard's details from the provided link. Noted any shared lanes in the slots. Seems the USB-C port was used instead.

Did you test the GPU performance under different lanes to check for issues? Remember, the GPU itself stays the same, but the PCIe bus could reach 8x speed, which might not make a big difference.
