Absolutely confirms this. When the GPU hits full capacity, it tends to draw near its maximum power delivery, making it hard for it to stay at lower voltages. It seems the hardware is pushing more power than what the BIOS permits, even though I’ve heavily undervolted it or run it cooler. The 3070’s actual TDP is around 270W, not the stock numbers, and it’s actually doing better than expected under load. It’s frustrating when the GPU wants more power but can’t, especially since I prefer lower usage for better cooling and battery life.
The 60% figure reflects GPU power consumption. Using half of the 3080’s maximum 320W capacity gives roughly 180-190W. I can only hit near 85-95% during Heaven, but in It Takes Two I reach about 240W. When Zero Horizon Dawn starts up, I can run at full CPU load at 100W. Power consumption stays close to 60%, similar to Witcher 3. Thanks for all your work. Could there be a setting I overlooked—perhaps related to Nvidia settings, drivers, or experience? I’m limited to 60% even with extra CPU capacity.
I saw an issue with GPU z... it might be the cause. Could this be related to the problem? The GPU is showing PCIe x16 4.0 at 1.3 when rendering and x1 at 1.1 when idle. Is this a bus interface issue? Should it actually be x16 3.0 or x16 4.0? In the BIOS it also lists x1 in the top slot.
Guys, I cracked it! My 3080 was connected to the top slot which should have been PCIe X16 but ended up being just PCIe X1 when it should have been X16. The bottom slot works fine with PCIe 4x. After switching things around, my performance jumped—FPS and CPU usage doubled, while GPU usage also increased. Witcher 3 1440p Ultra hit 50-60fps, Zero Horizon Dawn 1440p Ultra 40-50fps, and My FPS is climbing toward what the card can handle. Now I realize the real limit isn’t the CPU or RAM, it’s the PCIe bandwidth. Not great for the old 9700k and 2400MHz RAM, but it’s improving. Anyone got tips on how to unlock the full X16 speed from my top slot? So far only my NVMe SSD in the M.2 slot is working. Note: My card is on the bottom.
