I recently installed an MSI RTX 3080 replacing a TUF 3060. The issue is that I'm not experiencing the FPS gains reported online. - Witcher 3 (Ultra, 1440p): ~50-60 FPS - Zero Horizon Dawn (Ultra, 1440p): ~45-55 FPS (occasionally drops to high 30s) When I run benchmarks, the results look normal. - Furmark 1080p: ~16,500 points (reference) - Heaven 4.0 1440p: ~3,500 (reference post) Please note I'm using the system as it comes with. Small tweaks in settings can bring me near those reference values I've been aiming for after updating to the latest Nvidia drivers version 527 and Windows 10 22H2, but nothing seems to work. I'm only achieving about half of what others claim online. Benchmarks suggest 120+ FPS on Witcher 3 with the 3080 at 1440p and roughly 90-100 FPS on Zero Dawn at 1440p. It seems there might be a limitation in the games themselves, not in my hardware. I'm planning to switch to a high refresh monitor and set the FPS cap to unlimited, but I still hope to see those over 100 numbers on the counter. System details: GPU MSI Trio Z RTX 3080, CPU Intel i7-9700K (not heavily overclocked), RAM 4x8GB Kingston HyperX at 2400MHz, Storage includes a 1TB NVME SSD and a 2TB HDD for Steam, PSU Corsair RM750x, monitor Viewsonic 1440p 32", OS Windows 10 22H2. Update: I'm not facing CPU or RAM issues; it appears my PCIe slot is only providing x1 while the other gives x4. Once the change was applied and reflected, FPS improved noticeably with CPU usage, though it hasn't reached the bottleneck threshold yet.

Yeah, they seem to share the same CPU as you. But opinions shift quickly—most agree a 9th generation chip isn’t enough for the 3080, let alone a 3070. You’ll need to upgrade everything, not just the graphics card. With such an outdated CPU and slow RAM, it really doesn’t look good.

the interesting part about cpu activity is you have to examine each core individually... if just one reaches around 99% that’s sufficient to cause a game lag or freeze. what you’re observing is total consumption which isn’t really important unless the whole unit is failing, as nvidia drivers also sense it and slightly reduce performance so they keep running. heaven serves as a solid standard, for gpus it consumes minimal cpu thus not directly affecting your concern either—you see, around 10% usage at 120fps (using vsync) with about 50% gpu activity. yes, I’m excluding core details, but i know heaven typically uses only a couple of cores and they’re barely engaged. heaven is often chosen for gpu overclocking since it runs in windowed mode alongside afterburner, and even if your graphics card settings are shaky it usually stops crashing the system quickly. just inspect each cpu core in the games you’re having trouble with; generally random tests don’t provide much value here. ps: here’s my setup for checking cpu usage with afterburner—tomorrow I’ll go through it if I want to actually see those numbers.

Great observation...! It seems the GPU usage isn't clearly indicated, but you can check each GPU engine in Afterburner. It’s possible the CPU is the main factor here. I doubt the RAM alone would cause such a high impact.
