I purchased Battlefield 3 on DVD, which is just an install disc. After installation, you won't need to store it in the ODD folder anymore.

Prefer DD for quick connections. Choose CD for slower speeds and limited patience, with a lower download limit.

The game can be installed with just the CD, and once done you don’t need it anymore. Alternatively, you can use the key inside the box to claim it on Origin and then download it. Off topic: did old PC games require CDs to work?

just to confirm, similar to how I still play Stronghold Crusader. It seems it only activates when you first begin multiplayer and launch the game.

I think this was a very simple way to restrict access to the game. If you copied it, you wouldn't have the disc and wouldn't be able to play.

I understand. The first game I tried on PC was Starcraft 1 on a Win98 system. A friend just installed it, and no CDs were required.
