I received no startup and discovered I must upgrade the BIOS. I saved the newest bios and transferred the files to a FAT32 USB stick, connecting it via the lowest USB port on the motherboard. Should I take the CPU out of the board to install the BIOS update, or is the issue requiring a different BIOS version first?

It doesn't seem important, but I'd better take out the CPU. The Q-flash plus update is designed for updating without one.

I attempted to detach the CPU from the socket, but it stopped the system from powering up in any way—whether using the power button or shorting the power pins with a screwdriver. I also installed a two-year-old major revision of the BIOS onto a flash drive, yet the issue persists: no POST, only a 00 code on the motherboard, indicating CPU failure. Based on this, it seems necessary to use an older CPU model like Ryzen 2700 for a BIOS update on this board.

Someone might point out that the motherboard doesn't include Q-Flash Plus, only regular Q-Flash. Q-Flash refers to the ability to post and update the BIOS without needing an operating system installed, but you still require a compatible CPU on the board. If the current BIOS doesn't support the 5900X (version F60 or later is necessary), you'll need an older, supported CPU. You'd have to boot with that system, flash the BIOS with Q-Flash, and then install the USB you created before replacing it with the now-supported 5900X. AMD also offered a service where they could send you a replacement CPU if you reached out after trying through your retailer, though this seems unlikely given current circumstances.

I recall seeing those videos too. I picked up a used board since it offered great VRMs for its cost. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out.
