From a security standpoint, updating every 3 to 6 months is advisable. However, many individuals avoid this routine because resetting the Windows 10 key can be quite inconvenient when upgrading. Reinstalling Windows 7 is straightforward. Generally, users should perform this task annually to maintain optimal speed and performance.

Fair point. Usually my system gets messy from trying many programs. I haven’t done a clean install on Windows 10 yet—I just upgraded from 7 to 10 and am planning to give it another go.

You might need to contact Microsoft to get the key released if the Windows setup didn’t complete properly—it should have secured the key to your device.
