Hello everyone, I’m facing a problem I’m not sure about. My computer has been getting slow, especially when browsing the web and logging in. I checked my C drive and found plenty of free space, but I still can’t install antivirus except for Avast. Do you think there might be malware or viruses on my system? Should I consider downloading an antivirus, a malware killer, spyware removal tool, or a firewall? If possible, could you suggest some options that offer a free trial or are free? Thank you very much! Smile

If you're not sure, you might clear the system and reinstall the operating system. For software, Malwarebytes appears to be effective (the standard version is free).

Perform a scan using Malwarebytes. If the result shows clean, verify your system has been defragmented—especially if you're using a mechanical hard drive (Windows should handle this automatically). Consider installing Disconnect as your web browser extension to boost page load speeds. Also, download CCleaner and run a registry cleanup to remove unnecessary entries that can slow things down. If performance remains poor, reinstall Windows. For best results, wipe your OS at least twice a year or annually to maintain optimal speed (Windows can become sluggish over time). Clearing the volume ensures no malware remains, leaving everything fresh. If you don’t play games, switching to Linux might be a good option. Its ext file system resists fragmentation, so your machine will perform just as well today as it did when you first installed it. Plus, it offers stronger security benefits.

Can't set up antivirus? Try a free option that doesn’t need installation. Get Clamwin (better on another computer). Insert it onto a USB drive and open it. Let it update automatically. Put the USB in the infected machine and launch Clamwin to scan everything. This will help catch most threats. Remember, you’ll still want a full antivirus for regular protection. It’s a quick fix, not a long-term solution.
