However, since we're in the Star Citizen subforum, general advice won't be useful. The 970 won't maintain a perfect 60 FPS, but it's still functional. This happens because optimizations lead to new updates or ships, and we end up starting over. The "Universe" tends to slow down on the server side, while Arena Commander is more CPU and graphics-intensive since it doesn't depend on the server. The game is playable now, though it's not fully finished.

Interesting. Have you tried it lately? According to the newest update (Alpha 2.1), the game runs quite smoothly now—very stable as an FPS, and crashes are much rarer. It's made a big improvement and looks really good.

Currently the Crusader mini-PU module runs slowly for most users, but as Star Citizen develops you might achieve smooth performance at very high settings in 1080p—high settings may be needed for a stable 60fps, though 1440p at high quality could also deliver solid frame rates.
