Hey there, friend. I just got a new RTX 3060 Ti at a pretty good price, almost matching the MSRP. I cleaned up the old drivers from my AMD GPU, installed the new one, updated the drivers, and started playing games. But then the screen went black, even though the PC was still running. It looks like the power was cut off to the GPU somehow.
I think my PSU is probably old—maybe a 10-year-old 750-watt aftermarket with a generic brand name. I’m guessing that’s the issue. I used MSI Afterburner to lower the voltage, and the better I reduced it, the smoother the games ran, until again the black screen happened. Now I’m switching back to my old RX 570 and will keep playing until I figure this out.
Here’s what I have right now:
- AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (R520M)
- 16 GB DDR4 2666 MHz RAM
- 750-watt PSU, unknown brand
- Game specs listed below
- Some compatibility concerns
Any tips or fixes you’ve tried? Thanks!
I believe the power supply unit probably can't manage the sudden spikes from your GPU. It might claim to deliver 750W, but without certainty it might not actually reach that level. Also, don’t skimp on the PSU—it truly supports the entire system; if it fails, your whole PC could be affected.
It might stem from mixing up the power ratings of several 3.3/5V and 12V circuits to create an exaggerated peak value. I've noticed this on a Frontech advertised as 800W, yet its actual maximum output was closer to 300W.
had a seasonal in the Media PC that made the GF 560 go black during full HD playback... replaced it with a cooler Master V550 and everything ran smoothly even at the same power level.
