I recently took one of my old XP computers out for some retro gaming. It runs extremely slowly, far below expectations, and is packed with unnecessary bloatware that my parents believed were helpful. It comes with Netnanny and Kaspersky. The original CD is probably at their place, so searching there wouldn’t be much value. Learning that Anthony installed service pack 4 made me realize I should tackle my own issue and consider getting it too, even though I wasn’t sure I’d need it for every network connection.

To obtain it properly, you'd need a tangible version, not an online source. As Linus would humorously note *cough* PIA *cough* *cough*

If it does have a recovery partition I'd be worried it would be from a recovery point that would include all the bloatware or what ever is slowing it down. Net nanny was actually easily defeated by booting into safe mode. But I remember something about it maybe still tracking the times the computer was booted up and shut down. Eventually I was able to brute force/guess the password which gave me full access to even delete the schedule that tracked those times and thus not even need to enter safe mode. Such is life when you're 15 and using the family computer to watch pron after bedtime.

I managed to guess the password once and would disable it whenever they left the house. After that, I'd clear the logs showing it was turned off and restore it. You might also prevent it from starting by using safe mode. I'm not sure, but safe mode could help remove it from startup, though you'd need to remember to reinstall it afterward or they'd suspect tampering.
