I have an asrock z390 phantom gaming itx/ac and an intel i5 9600k. It works with intel cpus of the 9th generation and fits perfectly into the socket. Everything aligns correctly, including the triangle on the socket. When adjusting the level, a very strong force is needed right from the beginning. I built my PC before, but it required a lot of effort and produced a loud grinding noise. Now it’s so intense I’m hesitant to keep using it—I don’t want any further damage. This isn’t normal. I confirmed the CPU is seated properly in the socket, and even when checking manually, it supports 9th gen Intel CPUs. It could mean something is wrong with my setup or the CPU itself. What could be causing this?

Capture an image of it without the CPU and another with the CPU installed. It might indicate a faulty socket. The movement should require force, but not more than bending any metal arm with a spring latch. Similar to using a phone belt clip with a spring or the strong paper grips you use for sealing food, the effort needed to operate the CPU lever will be less intense.
It’s going to be a really bad socket issue. I’ve rebuilt my PC several times before. Before, it took some effort, but now it’s completely stuck—almost bent, and I haven’t moved it even a little. I’m planning to return it and wait for Intel 10th generation CPUs.
Also, the lever was poorly attached and didn’t hold, plus the case was damaged. Luckily, I’ll get another build next time. Even though I know how to fix it, I’ve seen similar problems from different shops because they don’t have everything ready. So I’ll buy everything now so I can get a 10th generation CPU.
