In practice, you just need a source game (TF2 is free) and HL2 episodes 1 and 2 work well. CSS helps textures appear correctly. If you need extra content, DOD:S is a solid option.

Most Source titles are available. You should watch for Valve's full collection during the Winter sales—it often drops to around £20. If you spot a good deal, it's a good idea to grab it.

CSS is essential for a good appearance, especially with TF2 and Gmod Tower. I only faced problems because it wasn’t installed.
