Hi everyone. Recently my computer exhibited very strange behavior, and wanted to hear everyones take on this and if theres a potential issue. Hardware; 12900kf + Asus TUF z690 Noctua NH-D15s Corsair DDR4 3600 EVGA RTX 3080 Seasonic M12ii evo 850w Issue; So I would like to preface all this info that this seems like it was a 1 off issue and so far hasnt occurred again. I had just updated my windows 10, before leaving for a couple days. Upon returning and turning on the PC, i had noticed that the temps and power draw were a lot higher than normal. Initially i had thought it was an update issue and so i uninstalled the update and restarted but didnt solve the issue so i just reinstalled it. Temps were crazy, idling at 50+c and easily reaching 80-100w at the desktop, and when playing a basic game like minecraft, it was easily reaching almost 200w and temps around 80+c. Fans were going crazy trying to keep the thing cool under very minimal load. I was at like 10-20% CPU usage with 200w. Thermal throttling defo occurred when doing anything with 50% cpu usage which wasnt normal. During one of the reboots, i went into the bios and noticed that the core voltage at pegged at 1.5ish v constant causing the temp to be at 50 plus in the bios. I then tried a cold boot again, which i didnt do when restarting the PC after uninstalling/ reinstalling the update. Cold boot; Turn the PC off completely including the mains power. After the cold boot, temps and voltage seem to be back under control. Played some minecraft and ran cinebench R23 and vcore never exceeded 1.288v, with no thermal throttling and idle wattage being only around 20-30w which is normal. I have undervolted my CPU by -0.1v adaptive offset with P cores at 50, E cores at 40. And ive had this applied for a couple months now so im fairly familiar with the temps i should be getting which is why i was alarmed. What could have caused this and should i be concerned? This rig is a couple months old, however i had reused my PSU thats probably close to 10 years old but hasnt given me any issues so far. Im stumped as to what could have caused this. TL;DR Started computer. Vcore was pegged at 1.5v with an undervolt causing crazy thermals and high wattage even at idle. Cold booted by turning off mains and problem went away. After cold boot, vcore at 1.288 max with no thermal throttling during gaming and cinebench run. What could have caused this and should i be concerned? Rig is mostly new except PSU thats almost 10 years old
