I mainly want to know whether connecting a new router to the same network or setting it up as a separate one affects its connection.

You might switch the router to AP mode, making it an access point integrated into the current network!

If you're getting these speeds on WiFi, that's pretty good. But that statement can only be made if we compare it to what you're paying for from your ISP. You need to find out what these speeds are. If it's not much different that you're experiencing now, you don't have to add any new equipment. Who is your ISP? And what is the make and model of the device they provided you? Most times you can get away with just upgrading your wireless card. What make and model of WiFi adapter does your computer have?

Your ISP is Xfinity or Comcast. Should I recommend upgrading your laptop's Wi-Fi card? I checked speedtest again and received these stats: PING ms 14, DOWNLOAD Mbps 24.45, UPLOAD Mbps 9.39.
