I recently installed my Ryzen 5 3600 and am testing it with the built-in cooler. I plan to upgrade to 16 GB RAM at 3600 MHz within a week. My CPU temperature spikes up to 87°C during GTA Online play. Should I consider an aftermarket solution? Would the Deepcool Gamma X be enough?

87 is above the typical range for the stock cooler with the 3600. Is your case lacking proper airflow? Could the room be too warm? Might your fan settings be unusual? Often, upgrading to an aftermarket cooler is beneficial, particularly for increased overclocking capabilities.

In theory no, but I’d choose one. Ryzen performs best at cooler temps—lower temps mean better speed. Consider the Coolermaster 212 EVO or the Noctua U12S.

Consider getting a 2x8GB kit, assuming you need it just in case. The temperature limit is around 95°C, so you're near the upper bound. You might adjust the stock cooler's fan curve to achieve lower temps, though this could increase noise. An aftermarket option would likely be quieter. Gammaxx offers a variety, from basic coolers to watercoolers. Personally, I prefer fanless models like the Pure Rock, Scythe Mugen 5, or Arctic Freezer 34.

will boost performance and the cooling should work fine, my i3 7100 handled up to 67°C during Gears 5 and other multiplayer titles. but the room stays pretty warm, usually between 28-35°C, so I think a deepcool gammaxx would be a good choice.

The situation shows limited airflow. The i3 was operating at those temperatures since it has a dual-core design, which is significantly less efficient than your CPU.

You're focusing on hwmonitor, which isn't very precise. Consider using hwinfo64 or Ryzen Master for better temperature tracking.
