The mechanism changes in a tangible way. The details of the adjustment are clear.
I initially overlooked compatibility issues. I attempted to install some upgrades, and the CPU worked, RAM clicked in, but I couldn't boot. I'm still checking if the CPU is fine, though I was thinking about a MoBo upgrade later.
I positioned the triangle arrow, it inserted into the socket and I secured it. It behaved like any other 1151 CPU—no pressure, no damage, nothing suggesting it wouldn’t fit. Edited October 17, 2020 by SansVarnic Snipped quote
I really don’t like those typical CPU fans with the metal clips. I’m planning to switch things up, so I’ll check out the Z490 suggestion. Thanks!
With a possibly nonfunctioning CPU and MoBo, are you bound to Intel? New AMD processors will arrive in a few weeks...
I'm not bound by any commitments, but with the virus taking my job, I'm managing a 2-year-old and another child arriving soon. That's why saving on upgrades took me a year. I still have a warranty on the CPU, so it can be swapped out when I get the new MoBo. Tomahawk Z490 seems like a solid choice.
It looks a bit pricey unless you're planning heavy overclocking; aim to keep it under $250 to save some cash.
