I’m really upset about this situation. I switched to Windows 24H2 mainly for better CPU performance, but now my HP Reverb G2 headset won’t work because Windows Mixed Reality is no longer available. It’s frustrating to see good equipment being discarded without a clear reason. What should we do?

Another reason this matters is the right to repair. On forums it seems many users have disabled automatic updates so Windows won’t upgrade to a version that makes WMR obsolete.

I recall the limited attention this received in the tech world about a year ago, with most people thinking "why bother?" The article from The Verge shows how mixed reality for Microsoft Windows fell out of favor around a year prior: https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/21/2401...deprecated

I reached out to CINEA already; they might be open to helping. The Reverb G2 remains a solid choice, particularly with the FOV adjustment.

They've been doing this for a long time now. A lot of great, working products have disappeared. Remember that when Windows 10 fades away we're not referring to millions of devices stuck with outdated software, but over 100 million PCs. Microsoft ignores this. You can still get WMR headsets right now or you might find ones that are covered by warranty and are already gone. This is frustrating and it looks like very few have made real efforts to keep WMR devices functional. The problem isn’t just online—it’s also happening in the workplace, where they’re relying on official Microsoft WMR headsets bought in 2024 that will still support Windows 10 LTS IoT systems. I’d advise steering clear of anything tied up in proprietary technology as much as possible. Or if it must use something, make sure it can run independently without needing internet or other apps to disable it.
