You have upgraded to a faster internet connection, yet your Steam download speeds remain unpredictable.
Hello, I just received the Comcast broadband package, 150mbps, along with a new router and modem. The connection feels quite fast. However, when I tried to download a game on Steam, it dropped from 15.0 MB/S to zero. I was hoping for steady performance, especially since I’m the only one using it right now. I’m not entirely sure what disk space usage looks like, and the connection seemed unstable too. It moved around a lot. 15.0 MB/S is decent but not as quick as I expected. Anyone have suggestions or fixes? Thanks. Edit: Tested with Ethernet and got the same issue. Also tried on Origin, speeds were slower but consistent with no big drops. So Steam seems to be the problem?
In the example above, it worked wirelessly but functioned with Ethernet as well. The same issue occurred. I was surprised by how quickly it dropped from 15 to 0 or 10 to 0. Earlier it went down gradually—like 10 to 9 to 8—and never instantly.
Hardwire is linking directly via an Ethernet cable to the router. If you achieve similar outcomes with that setup, that’s likely your current speed. You might want to test a big file from another site just to confirm if the limit is Steam-related rather than your own connection. Generally, reaching maximum download speed isn’t typical.
Speed feels okay in general, but I used to struggle to reach 1 mbs. It’s confusing why it fluctuates so much—from low to none at all. Got any suggestions?
