Hello, I recently purchased a new computer but am encountering several problems. I’m trying to identify which part might be faulty so I can return it. Issues include: USB headset not being recognized (Windows displays an error about a malfunctioning device). It functions properly on other machines. There’s a crackling sound after some use, worsening over time until only static remains. When the condition becomes severe, all connected headsets behave similarly. The Ethernet connection stopped working once (possibly during driver installation). The mouse and keyboard stopped responding randomly. I passed a few POST tests after assembly, and removing USB devices resolved the issue. I don’t have any other components to swap or test. My thoughts suggest the motherboard could be damaged. Could you offer some guidance on testing it further or pinpoint the likely faulty component? Here are the specs: GPU – AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, CPU – AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Motherboard – Asus TUF Gaming B550-PLUS WIFI II, RAM – G.Skill Aegis DDR4 3200 Mhz, SSD – Samsung EVO 980, Power Supply – Cooler Master V750 Gold V2. Usually there isn't enough power reaching the USB ports to run everything. Often I attribute it to the motherboard, though it can also be a power supply issue with a bad PSU.
I’d verify that all connections for the front IO are correctly positioned and securely linked. If issues persist, remove the front IO from the motherboard entirely and attempt the setup again. The problem might stem from a faulty cable or connectors at the start. Also, ensure the rear IO shield isn’t causing shorts within any USB ports—grounding leaves on the exterior should be present.
The USB C port appears to be the main source of problems. I’m taking apart the PC to check for setup issues, and it seems the USB C I/O shield group pin is making contact with the port and also touching the cable when connected. Photos are attached. Would this be contributing to the issues?
