Hey everyone, I’m missing the AMD Threadripper Torx screwdriver. What should I do now? Yesterday I finally got my Threadripper 3960x, which was the last piece needed for my build and I was really looking forward to it. That day I found out I received the wrong motherboard—something that needs fixing soon. For the CPU, I chose the Tray-only option because it arrived faster and cost less than 120€, so I went ahead with that. To my surprise, the box feels oddly tight, especially since I have a high-end processor. My main concern is that I won’t have the Torx screwdriver, which could cause issues if I try to install it. Some people have said it’s possible without it, but I don’t want to risk damaging the motherboard pins. Do you have any advice or suggestions? I’m in Switzerland.

Do you possess additional screwdrivers, maybe a Torx that matches?

Visit nearby electronics shops. They’re likely to carry items that match your needs.

Threadripper models don’t have pins beneath them, so moving the box with the CPU should work fine. For proper installation, consider getting a second-hand screwdriver, such as this one.

I might be unsure, but I can usually locate a solution. However, I worry about damaging the pins on the motherboard if I force it too tight. It seems like many people make this mistake when they try to install something without the proper tools, which can ruin the board.

Currently, the product isn't available for purchase and will not be shipped to you. The main issue right now is that this listing shows as unavailable.

Torx T20 screwdriver should fit. AMD suggests about 1.5 newton meter or 13.3 in-lb of torque. You might locate a third-party tool with detachable heads that show the torque reading. Essentially, tighten until you feel strong resistance from the CPU pads on the socket pins. Once you hit noticeable pushback, errors may appear and you’ll need to crank it a bit further.
