Imagine if I shared a solution that would prevent this frustration—no more reinstalling everything from scratch or enduring painful steps. Something that saves you time and effort.

Most users possess a removal feature while Avg provides this functionality.

I once used each of those scanners you mentioned over several years, and no issues were reported. It wasn’t necessarily a secure choice, but I kept reinstalling the operating system regularly.

The system might be affected by malware too. I changed to Avast a while back after my AVG setup became compromised.

I worked for AVG in my professional capacity, but left because they didn’t address the issues I raised. I suggest using their official removal utility: http://www.avg.com/ww-en/utilities. It should resolve the problem, don’t worry. Run it with admin privileges and avoid using AVG again. I also recommend opting for paid antivirus solutions or Microsoft security tools. AVG, Avast, Avira all have significant flaws—bugs that can be exploited, and they often contain unnecessary software lacking real protection. This includes gaps in defense against third-party exploits like Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader, Office, Chrome, Firefox, and more. While Microsoft offers DEP, antivirus software still outperforms it. The top options based on my experience are Norton, Eset, Kaspersky, Trend Micro, and even the built-in Microsoft security suite. If you prefer Norton, don’t be discouraged—if you can’t write an exploit to bypass their defenses, then they’re not worth your time. In theory, a strong antivirus like AVG sounds good, but in practice it’s problematic. The registry changes from AVG can clash with other security programs, and many files require special permissions that take considerable effort to manage. Overall, antivirus software is generally not recommended. The removal tool provided by AVG covers all bases. I’m not making this up—just sharing what I’ve learned. And speaking of AVG, it’s been a tough time. Back when they cared about security testing, now it’s mostly about tuning and ads. Some board members are trying to launch a new cybersecurity firm, but that’s not my priority yet. Right now, Symantec and Kaspersky dominate the enterprise market. I’m not claiming to be better than them, since I don’t think they’ll improve much. The industry needs change, especially with Linux being one of the most vulnerable open systems—unless you restrict root access, it’s a real risk. This is just a heads-up. Sorry if I went off topic.

Remove AVG. ^^ Consider using Microsoft Security Essential / Windows Defender or BitDefender Free if you prefer not to install MSE or Windows Defender. Alternatively, you can use one of these options—it won't replace your antivirus and doesn't offer real-time protection. Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool Norton Power Eraser
