Hello there, I'm a tech guy like you all here and I have one question, " How do you improve your FPS?". I compared my system ( i7 2600 8 gb ram and GTX 960 SSC 4gb ) with my friends ( i7 6700 16 gb ram and 960 mini 2gb ) His pc blows mine out the water. In GTA V he gets around 70 FPS and I'll get around 40 FPS. My GPU is better then his so, I know its not that, as much as I think it is his CPU. Could it just be as simple as my CPU not having the features his does. This was not a problem for me until I started to record my game play. If there is anything I can do that will not cost me a lot I'd love to hear it. If I have to change something I was thinking on upgrading my motherboard and cpu, Id like to stay on the DDR 3 version of memory. Edited March 11, 2017 by TheRandomness Removed email

Obtain an RX480 if possible and refresh all drivers.

This will likely perform better in FPS.

GTAV is one game that uses the CPU a lot so It could be a bit of a CPU bottleneck. Also, those GPU's are essentially the same, yes you have 2GB more of memory but GPU memory is one of those things that doesn't matter until you need it. I would see if it happens in not so CPU intensive titles first before I would look at other problems. Edited March 11, 2017 by TheRandomness Removed email

Avoid relying on your CPU power or background software. If your CPU is already at its limit, a more capable GPU will be the solution. Check a Windows Performance Guide for guidance—such as enabling "High Performance" mode and handling typical tasks that would otherwise take a long time. Disable core parking if needed, even temporarily for testing. The significant jump is likely caused by only reaching 3.4Ghz instead of 3.8Ghz, and the Skylake will provide much higher performance than that plus its IPC benefits.

The differences lie in the speed, not just the capabilities.

He definitely has an 8GB extra of RAM. From what I know, Battlefield stands out for its higher memory usage, but perhaps GTA V also benefits from that. I think his processor is significantly newer, though the 2600K remains solid. His graphics performance seems better than most. Switching to a 1060 would likely help, and his i7 is still quite useful.

There isn’t much incentive to keep using DDR3 RAM. It might actually slow down performance, especially if faster RAM is present on the system.

The key change lies in the architectural leap between the 2700 and the 6700. Your recall (and its pace) might actually be hindering you.
