I’m receiving a used Gigabyte White GTX 1080Ti with two 6+2pin connectors. I’m also getting a fresh PSU in a few days, while my current setup is a 450W 80Plus N560i. My PSU only has one 6+2pin port. The GPU is arriving sooner than the PSU, and I’m planning to test it first—just to see if it displays images or powers on until the new PSU arrives. I won’t be playing games on it until I have the PSU.
You can verify if an image is shown, but only up to that point since it will redirect you to a screen asking for PCIe power input.
Many cards featuring several connectors need more than one to activate properly. The latest PCIe 5.0 connectors on Nvidia cards solve this by communicating power requirements to the GPU, depending on your PSU and adapter pin configuration. You're likely to need to wait. If you have a splitter, avoid using the card for extended periods and keep the power limit low.
i used a 6-pin adapter for my molex to 8 pin, but it caused issues. later i connected a gtx 660 with the adapter, which worked briefly before problems arose. cleaning the pc didn’t help, and turning it back on caused the gpu to stop working. i changed the gpu, which broke my hdd. now i’m unsure if the adapter still functions or if it’s the other component that failed.
Share it with a person using a standard power source to see how it performs.
You won't be able to proceed without changing it. The new PSU is likely the best choice. It might not suit you, but you can connect it using an adapter that divides the 6+2 into two 6+2 units. However, you'll need to wait for the adapter while the PSU is still being delivered.
It's smarter to avoid using a decent GTX 1080ti if you're getting a faulty power supply and just sitting there.
yes just got the gpu, im waiting for tommorow when the psu arrives, i got it for 185 dollars off a nice guy (im 15 and told him its all my money) the gpu looks great but i cannot say anything until the psu arrives, thanks for the help
