Seeking advice. PC won't restart properly. After turning it on and flipping the PSU switch, the motherboard reads 00 and fans spin at full speed. I've updated the BIOS but still faced problems before. Previously, a dead CMOS battery caused issues, though I've been using it for three months without other problems except this restart issue. Any suggestions? -Details- board: Asus Maximus vi Prime CPU: i7-4790K RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 @1866

Blown capacitors may be the issue. Computers rely on stored energy in capacitors for restarts; a damaged one can lead to failure. Check the board for swollen or broken components. Does the system stop before restarting or shut down permanently after turning off?

I was considering a blown capacitor too, but there’s no indication of it. I’ll probably take it out and remove the CMOS to look for shorts, then let it discharge. It freezes completely and won’t release until I press the power button and restart.

Did you take out the graphics card and cables during the check? Would the same occur when restarting from BIOS? You might also attempt a Linux live setup and restart from there. It could be a Windows problem if that’s your setup. Looks like a nice build too.

I’ve been using around 8 GPUs since setup (keeping DDU safe mode between each change), which has caused problems from day one on the test bench. It seems the issue might be hardware-related. I’m currently running Windows 10 Home, but I’m considering Linux later to confirm. Thanks for the kind words—it’s been a lot of effort, and I’m planning to upgrade the motherboard and CPU. I’ll install a prebuilt unit and want it to function properly before selling.
