Just a few thoughts on Windows 10 so far – it’s really nice. I also checked YouTube for tips on removing Cortana and other privacy concerns. Besides that, there are a few things in Windows 7 that bother me. I remember an option (in the registry) to speed up restarts by reducing the time apps take to close and making the restart quicker. It would be great if there were a way to eliminate the annoying welcome screen so my PC jumps straight into my user account without waiting too long for it to load. Thanks!

I wasn't able to locate much on shortening windows restart time. However, there are steps you can take to jump straight into your user account. First, press Win+R and type Netplwiz, then press Enter. This opens the User Accounts dialog. Make sure the box asking for a username is unchecked, and provide your username and password to enable autologin. That should complete it.

Press START, enter msconfig, press Enter. Navigate to BOOT settings, adjust the timeout to 3 seconds, then go to ADVANCED OPTIONS, set CPU count to maximum, and modify memory settings.

Yes! This will also work for Win8 users Hit the Start button Type "netplwiz" and hit enter Select your user account Uncheck the box that says "Users must enter a user name and password...." Then hit apply, a new box will appear In the new box, the username should be the name of the local account you can find be going to C:/Users/[username] In the password box, type the password you'd normally type to log in, this should be your Hotmail password if you used that when setting up Windows 10 Once you restart you will automatically be logged in You can still lock your PC of course as well as if it goes to sleep you can have it ask for a password or not.

I handled it but the restart remains slow. About 30 seconds in the "restarting" window, you notice dots around the PC loading in roughly 7 seconds, yet the reset still takes 30 seconds. That’s just too long. : \ I tried the same and it didn’t help; my PC displays the Windows blue logo for a few seconds before automatically showing the welcome screen for about a second, after which the OS loads. I’m looking to stop that welcome screen from appearing. I don’t have passwords or a Microsoft account—just a regular user. It adds an extra delay of around 1 second and has an unpleasant background. Different from my usual desktop theme.

After this, the "welcome" screen appears and takes a moment to load. You wish to remove it.

Windows is starting properly; consider using a quicker SSD or reducing startup applications.
