You can choose between your regular password and an app password for Microsoft Outlook 2021.
I've worked with various versions of Outlook on my computer, including older and newer editions, and I've used both my email and an app password. Now I'm trying to access Outlook 2021, but the app password isn't working. Should I switch to using my regular password instead? Also, I have two-step verification enabled on my account. Thanks for your assistance!
Hi there, My Microsoft and Office accounts are using the same login details. I’m running Windows 10/11 Pro and access them via [email protected] through Azure. My Office 365 has a Business Premium subscription allowing five installs of all apps under that domain. From what I recall, Outlook typically doesn’t request subscription info since it assumes the email is linked to an MS account—likely a reasonable assumption. Word and Excel occasionally prompt for login credentials when activating the products.
Thanks for the details! I don’t use any Microsoft subscriptions. My account is just on outlook.com.
New Outlook client must allow login via your primary password only. App passwords apply to users lacking full two-factor authentication support.
Thank you so much for your assistance! I successfully logged into the Outlook LSTC 2021 desktop client using my password and the two-step verification code. I was cautious about entering my real password since I had previously used app passwords for all previous Outlook versions over ten years.
