Could you clarify what you're seeing? It looks like a large white component with fan wires and a power connection, but you're unsure if it's meant for power or just fans. Checking the label or manufacturer details might help.

First image displays several MOLEX connectors, utilized for supplying power to old parts and supporting accessories. Second image features a floppy disk power connector, which has become outdated over the past 25 years.

I connected the SATA power cable into the Molex port. Now I’m trying to figure out why it might not work. First, check if the SATA connector fits properly in the Molex socket. If there’s another device you can plug in to supply power, that could help determine the issue.

You connect the SATA power adapter directly to the device, ensuring it receives power. The fans should start working as intended. No additional steps are usually required unless you're troubleshooting.

It appears to be an older power supply that might pose safety risks with your current components. The main purpose for using Molex today would likely be to drive fans when there aren’t enough fan connectors. A splitter can efficiently handle two fans from a single header, offering a cleaner setup. Additionally, the black connector you noticed seems to match Molex standards rather than SATA, though it’s hard to confirm without more details.

Are there alternatives to the white Molex connector for powering fans? Options like a 3-pin DC or 4-pin PWM connector that can connect directly to a MB header exist. Some fans provide multiple power modes to ensure compatibility with older systems. Molex is among the least modern choices and may also be noisy. If your fans rely solely on Molex for power, they’re likely quite old and could benefit from an upgrade to DC or PWM if you have the budget.
