My initial concern is whether it's possible to reach over 2666 MHz with the i5 10600K and what motherboard would be suitable. I was wondering if there are restrictions on memory speeds depending on the brand, since some sites claim you can only get i3/i5 at 2666 MHz while i7/i9 offer higher overclocking potential. Also, does it really matter which brand you choose, or is that more of a marketing thing? I'm planning to buy two 3600 MHz sticks and would appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance for your help!

Refer to the typical documentation for the 10th generation. Each motherboard maker would outline the approved RAM setups—they call this a QVL list. After that, you can choose the best RAM option that matches your budget.

If your motherboard supports that RAM speed, you should be able to use two 3600 MHz modules without issues. It will be even simpler if the modules are only 8GB each and you’re not using four of them. Any speed above 3600 requires more careful selection of your RAM. Just ensure the brand and speed match your board. Since it’s a Z series model, finding compatible RAM should not be difficult. This board is typically aimed at enthusiasts who overclock, so double-check your QVL on the manufacturer’s site for confirmation.

Some websites claim certain speeds are limited—for example, i3/i5 only at 2666 MHz and i7/i9 at higher speeds—but on other boards there may be no such restrictions. That detail is just a general reference from Intel. The official site notes that a 5930K can run 2133 MHz in my previous setup, yet I regularly use 32GB at 3000 MHz on an x99 board without any problems. BIOS updates might change these specs, and sometimes they don’t reflect the latest performance.
