I am having a weird internet problem that I can't fix. Here is a simple picture of my setup: The modem goes to a switch (1), then from there it connects to a router which gives me wifi, a tablet, and another switch (2). The tablet works fine on ethernet and the wifi signal works with phones coming online. Switch(2) connects to two computers and here is where things go wrong. Computer(1) works okay but computer(2) keeps saying "unidentified network." My ethernet cables are brand new cat6, all tested and working on other stuff too. I tried moving the two computers around so that computer(1) was on a different desk but computer(2) still said it couldn't connect. At this point I thought maybe computer(2) was broken. With a usb wifi adapter, computer(2) could connect to the internet, but now I'm trying to get it wired in the first building. I moved computer(2) to a different building with a different modem and an ethernet cord, and it connected just fine. This makes me think that computer(2)'s ethernet port is working fine, but it doesn't explain why it can't connect to the internet in the first place. The internet speed is 100mbps and no one else has trouble with slow speeds, neither switch says they support that speed. No TVs are using data so heavy that might cause problems. Computer(2) works perfectly fine when it's moved to a different room. It makes me wonder if the modem is the problem, but since it sends signal steadily to everything else I mentioned before, it can't be dead. I called cox and they told me to do all the basics again, mostly resetting the modem, and they said everything looks normal on their end. I tried every fix google has to offer: reinstalling the network card, pressing the reset button, clearing network settings from the command prompt, resetting the modem, and restarting computer(2) many times now. Does anyone have any idea how I could solve this?

When you run IPCONFIG /all, what does it show? Is the ethernet port actually disconnected or is it connected? Does it get IP addresses at all? If a machine shows 169.x.x.x, that means it isn't getting an IP address. What happens if you take out the switch and plug the computer directly into the cable going to the router? Sometimes this works fine on some computers but not others. There are huge numbers of bad cables being sold, mostly those flat ones you see everywhere. The wires are too thin and don't meet official standards. Some machines can't handle a cable that is out of spec at all, while others seem okay with it.
