I'm struggling to choose between the Z690 Hero and Z690 Carbon. I usually prefer Asus products, but I'm still deciding. My plan includes using a Helios case, so an ASUS board would be great. Also, have you heard if the capacitor problems are resolved? Would ordering a Hero from Newegg come with a new fixed unit? Thanks everyone for your advice!

Don't chase the Hero, it's essentially the same as the Carbon board but priced higher with a different BIOS. If you're planning to invest over $500 in DDR5, consider one of the two DIMM boards such as the Unify X. They offer superior memory support—crucial considering the weak DDR5 controllers on Alder Lake—and can reliably manage much faster speeds (6600MHz is manageable, while 6200-6400MHz is at most stable on four DIMMs). The capacitor issue on the Hero has been addressed, but the board itself isn't worth the effort.

For serious ASUS enthusiasts, the Apex is the top choice, but using an ASUS board inside the Helios case won’t significantly improve performance compared to MSI or Gigabyte options. These newer ASUS boards are often 10–40% pricier than alternatives, making them less practical for most builds.

I don't believe I'd ever handle a gigabyte board, even with payment. It would be great to focus more on ASUS components, isn't it? Does this matter for the build style? Yes, it does.
