You already possess a Windows account. You can obtain a free Windows installation for your new PC, even though the drivers didn’t transfer correctly. The activation key will be provided once you register. Creating an account incurs a fee, but it won’t restrict your use as long as you log in with your existing credentials.

Your Microsoft account must have a Windows license linked to it, or it won’t work. (OEM versions connect the license to the device.) You can download the installer directly from Microsoft.

Ensure your Windows license key is linked to your Microsoft account for automatic migration upon login. This rule applies only to keys purchased online or offline. Keys pre-activated on your system are OEM licenses and cannot be transferred between devices. A Windows product key with the same motherboard but a different SSD should work once activated. If you didn’t purchase the key, you can transfer it by entering specific commands in the command prompt. Summary: OEM keys generally can’t move unless paired with an active system hardware. Retail keys allow transfer if you have the matching hardware.
