Absolutely, you're correct... It's still a noticeable gap... In fact, it's not too bad with a 6-core CPU, 12 threads, OC up to 4.5 GHz, and 12 GB RAM at 1600MHz in triple channels. I really liked that setup... I still own it, but it feels a bit old now and just sits there on the motherboard in a case.
