Yeah, that's what I was considering. Perhaps I'll abandon this idea.

Keep unused storage free for future needs. Unplug drives with important files before proceeding.

I would not suggest you to install XP because I've ran into some issues with one of those: for instance Chrome didn't work and I had to choose from an old version of Firefox, an old version of Seamonkey or internet Explorer as a browser. Html5 had issues also, so Youtube was also not an option there... Windows10 is lighter and if you tweak it and debloat it properly it will work better than XP If you like to use outdated OSes you should consider Win7 instead of XP, unless you don't really need it for unknown reasons.

The 2 Core 2 Duos should work with XP, but the i5 and Ryzens are probably not. The main issue is that drivers aren<|pad|>, so the safest choices are 7 or 10. Keep in mind that 7 is nearing end of life in two weeks.

I had my first PC fail about a year ago. It was using Windows XP and everything worked well. After that, I switched it to Windows 10 (it had a Pentium 4 with 512MB RAM). It still functioned until the hardware stopped working. Just for fun, I'm doing this now.

You're in a better spot than me. I used to have a computer at work that was tricky because of Windows XP, dual-core processor, and just 2GB of RAM. It wasn't perfect—XP had compatibility problems with newer programs—but it worked for me. I think it's fine if you're looking to bring back an old system and don't want Linux. Windows is still a solid choice for office work because it has more software options.
