I’m planning to set up a new Ryzen machine soon, so I wanted to sort everything on PC Part Picker. I noticed my PSU isn’t compatible with the ASUS X570 motherboard because it needs extra 4-pin 12V power next to the CPU connector. I’ve never seen this before—should I buy a PSU designed for this setup or use an adapter, even though my old one worked on another system?

It seems the setup works without the 4-pin adapter, while your PSU needs one. The PC is functioning properly.

Insert the 8-pin EPS12V connector. The extra 4-pin connector may remain unconnected.

You seem uncertain about the situation. It’s understandable to be cautious with a new purchase, especially if you’re concerned about compatibility or performance.

One eight-pin EPS12 connector supports up to 384 Watts. An AM4 CPU should not exceed this limit under normal conditions. The additional four pins are unnecessary.
