Hi, your friend is looking for a PC cleanup and a fresh Windows 10 setup. He’s using Windows 8 and keeps files on separate drives, including games and photos. I’m curious if creating a restore point before reinstalling will bring everything back to Windows 8 or simply transfer the data to the new Windows 10 version. Thanks for the help!

Perform a full clean install by disconnecting all drives except the one Windows will use, and wipe that drive. Proceed with installing Windows 10. If any data needs to be transferred during the process, move it to another drive and disconnect it before installation. Restore points don’t work in this scenario—they’re meant for restoring a system state prior to software setup, not for data transfer.

Software and games can't be saved or fixed; you must reinstall them. Photos, videos, Office documents remain unchanged even after a Windows reinstall, and avoid reformatting the drive.

It's a restrictive program that often fails. Mostly it just copies and pastes content. It's generally not advised because of the problems, but it can be useful when it functions properly.
