Eventually, Microsoft may need a Microsoft account for Windows 11 Pro installations. Is it possible to use a fake Microsoft account to set up Windows 11, create a local account, and then remove the online account from the machine?

we won't know until they implement it because they might enhance security then. but at the moment you can proceed even without a fake Microsoft account using Rufus for your Windows setup. you might also face issues with updates, and this method is labeled as "unsupported."

It’s easier to skip the sign-up form; the process isn’t too tough and changes are often discovered after patches. I think the method you recall won’t help, removing the old account isn’t an option either.

During the Windows 11 installation, it’s not guaranteed you’ll have a network card with drives. They need a method to skip account creation until drivers are installed. You can try workarounds, turn off all network cards until a local account is set up, or opt for Windows 11 Pro.

It seems there might be some confusion. I'm not certain if the update explicitly blocked offline accounts on Windows 11 Pro. It's possible they mentioned it but didn't implement the change, or they might have only stated it without actually doing so. You could still need to use alternative methods regardless.

You can currently bypass the user account with Rufus : https://www.ghacks.net/2022/06/27/bypass...ith-rufus/ This is a current work around, and if its ever patched somebody will find another work around as Ronothan said.

I’m fine with having at least one MS account on the box. I’ve used MS tools and will need an MS account either way. But usually I keep all user accounts as regular accounts, just one admin account, and I prefer keeping that admin local for security. I don’t want to set up a single admin online account for every W11 machine or have separate ones for each device.

Yes, you can always change an online account to a local account. That option is still available.
