How tough is this? If you store data on an external hard drive, are the files safe from potential issues?

If you believe you can, we won't suggest it unless you've already tried or have prior experience.

Removing components without damaging them is hard. If you are installing Windows on external HDD then you have to be very careful not to remove it. Things can get corrupted tho. (There is a chance)

I don't plan to put Windows on an external hard drive. I want to use it as a flash drive so I can install the operating system on my new SSD.

Would you like to use your 16GB memory card? Can I transfer files from your phone to it? Yes, it's possible.

If your laptop includes a memory card reader, the boot order might need adjustment if it isn’t functioning properly.

I don’t have a card reader, so I considered inserting the memory card into my phone instead.

It seems unlikely to be feasible.
