I haven’t located any 99% IPA products online in my region, the closest match is a 70% IPA instant hand sanitizer. Could you use this as a substitute for cleaning thermal paste residue on your CPU and heatsink? The listed ingredients suggest it contains alcohol, which may help with cleaning.

No, please refrain from that. It may result in a leftover substance.

Absolutely not. This would create a mess with leftover residue. I rely on 95% IPA for thermal paste removal, and 99% is nearly impossible to obtain without specialized equipment. If you must use a lower concentration, stick to 70% IPA and handle it with extreme caution. You could apply it directly to a cloth and avoid any sensitive areas. It’s safer to work dry rather than risk contamination.

You can opt for denatured alcohol if needed, though isopropyl alcohol is generally preferable.

Consider what you're asking. Hand sanitizer kills germs, not just cleans. Extra ingredients stay in place and don't disappear like pure alcohol does.

I'm reaching out since the search results only show 70% IPA hand sanitizers, and 99% IPA isn't readily accessible for purchase in my country.

A lower percentage of isopropyl is acceptable. The fact that hand sanitizer has 70% alcohol doesn<|pad|> can help, but it doesn't guarantee safety. My point was to encourage you to consider the situation from multiple perspectives, not just the alcohol content. All right.

I emptied my PC and didn’t need any liquid to eliminate the buildup. I simply used a microfiber cloth to wipe it away, and it came off very easily.

Do you think its a good idea to get handsanitiser, and then boil off (distill) the alcohol and get about 100% alcohol. Aka I cant get isopropyl where I live its banned. P.S:I know its an old thread, my bad
