Hi there, new user for AMD GPU. You're coming from an RTX 3070 and used afterburner for both boosting performance and in-game overlays. After getting the 7900 XTX, people suggest adrenaline is better for tuning and undervolting your GPU. I tried using it for adjustments while keeping afterburner active for overlays, but noticed strange issues—fan curve problems and occasional crashes. My question: Does afterburner clash with adrenaline and try to reset my GPU settings? Can I run both apps together, or would it help to turn off afterburner for tuning and fan control? Also, I know adrenaline has an overlay feature, but I can't seem to tweak the content to suit me. Thanks!
Checked the AMD community forum and found that adrenaline often causes issues with MSI Afterburner. Since 2018 there have been reports of crashes, freezes, and unstable overclocking problems. Some bugs seem resolved but not completely, so you might try running Riva Turner Statics Server without MSI Afterburner and use HWiNFO64 instead. Starting from scratch is expected, especially since you're switching to AMD after years with Nvidia GPUs. It's disappointing for me too.
I'm facing the same issue, getting a new 7900XTX to swap for my 3080 Both. It seems the Afterburner overlay works, but with the 7900s it doesn't display much info—no power usage visible at all. I moved to Adrenalin, though, and it shows way fewer CPU stats... I didn’t adjust GPU settings in Afterburner, just used OSD in Adrenalin (which is a much better option than NVidia stuff).
Same here, the AMD water feels fresh and deep to me. RTSS with HWinfo can't show FPS or frame time, like a small issue. It's not working well for me.
You connected GPU power monitoring via HWiNFO to MSI Afterburner, but you're unsure what features it lacks compared to Afterburner. The adrenaline overlay overlays missing details such as real-time power consumption metrics and detailed thermal data that Afterburner provides. Make sure to review the differences before applying the change.
My 7900XTX's power consumption wasn't listed among the adjustable OSD options... this might be related to the new AMD cards, as the Russian developer behind Afterburner hasn't been paid for a year. My Adrenalin settings didn't reapply at startup, so I looked into changing access permissions on an AMD DLL—now it works. I've adjusted GPU, VRAM clocks, fan speed, and power draw while gaming. It's much more user-friendly than the NVidia setup (NV settings + GeForce Experience + Afterburner). Still, I think the hardware from NVidia isn't doing much right now.
