As long as you need the Windows key and it doesn’t relate to Dell or HP specifics, I’m good. Upgrading to Windows 10 for free means using your old Windows 8 disc on the new setup.

You'll need a different key for both the laptop and the new computer.

Do you know where I can find a product key under 20 dollars? Also, what happens if I return the laptop but leave a copy of the disk?

You can find a product key for affordable options by checking discount websites, using coupon codes, or purchasing from authorized resellers.

are you certain it's the disk reinstall? most laptops come with a software disc, but usually it's just a recovery disk for the specific hardware you have. this isn't really a Windows installation disk, and you can't use it on another computer. it will refuse to install because it shows incorrect hardware or missing drivers. as for cheap keys, just search online—it will guide you to the right site. it works for a while if you're willing to take a chance.

You're asking about the reliability of the recovery disk. It depends on whether you're using it long-term or just a short-term fix. If you're willing to take the risk, it might work temporarily, but for consistent use, a dedicated recovery drive is better.
