Hi, your current setup works fine for now. You’re considering swapping to a 950 PRO SSD for better performance with Windows and programs, while keeping your 1TB EVO SSD for games like Steam, Origin, and Uplay. Yes, you can do that—just ensure the games and clients are installed on the new SSD. You’ll still run your existing content from the original drive, and the transition should be smooth.

You could place the clients straight onto the SSD EVO and then upload and set them up there as well. Or you might have to put the clients on the primary hard drive, where the operating system is installed.

Set up Steam on the main boot disk, place Origin and Uplay on a separate secondary disk.

Here’s a revised version of your instructions:

1) Navigate to Steam, select Settings, then choose Downloads, after that select Steam Library Folders and add the library folder.
2) Transfer the new library to a separate drive. Once added, right-click it in the Steam window and set it as the default installation spot.
3) You can move any existing Steam games from the old folder to the new one. Either check the game’s integrity within the Steam Library or install it, which should automatically scan your library files instead of downloading them. As shown, I store all my titles on a 1TB drive and use a 120GB SSD as a boot drive.
4) If you’re starting fresh with a new Windows installation (assuming all games are already on the 1TB drive), follow these steps:
- Install Windows on your new SSD.
- Install Steam either on the main SSD or the game SSD (it doesn’t matter which).
- Return to Steam, go to Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders > Add Library Folder.
5) Point the selected directory to your existing Steam library on the 850 Evo. Make it your default library.
6) Verify game integrity in the Steam Library or install it, which will scan your library files instead of downloading them.

Origin tends to be more demanding when checking existing files. The process is similar to Steam, but its installation and verification features aren’t fully functional for all games. Usually, older titles cause issues, and you can adjust the library location by going to: Origin > Application Settings > Advanced > Download Games Uplay.

Uplay also allows installing games on a different drive, with an option in settings under downloads. The client prompts you about installation location during the download, but it doesn’t alter your existing download path.

Origin also supports locating games in a previous folder. Regarding clients, they must be reinstalled following each Windows reinstallation.
