Hello, I'm using an RX 6500 XT GPU and currently running it on PCIe Gen 3. I'm interested in upgrading to PCIe Gen 4 performance. I know AMD stopped supporting PCIe Gen 4 on chipsets below the X570 around 2019/2020. Do you think my MSI B450M Pro vdh max would have been able to handle it? If so, could I upgrade the BIOS to a version that supports PCIe Gen 4? Thank you!

AMD quickly disabled it after Zen 2. Ideally you could update any BIOS you wanted using an external programmer, but earlier versions of AGESA offered fewer options and I wouldn’t bother with that release. You’d need AGESA 1.0.0.3 (not AAB) from May 2019. The RX6500XT is a real disappointment no matter what you use it for. And don’t forget, it won’t function properly if your CPU isn’t compatible with AGESA 1.0.0.3.

It depends on the situation—there might be a minor adjustment, but it’s not guaranteed.

Right now I own a RYSON 5 3400G, but if PCI Gen 4 is supported I’m thinking about moving to a 3600. I’m flexible on other choices.
