I’m setting up my first PC and thinking about using an Ethernet connection because the Wi-Fi signal in my room isn’t strong enough. The router is on the first floor at the front of the house, while my room is on the second floor in the back. My main challenge is running the cable through the floors without crossing over the heater above the router on the second floor. I’m not sure if it’s best to run it straight up or go around the first floor directly under my room due to obstacles. Many guides suggest burying outdoor cables about 6–8 inches below the surface. I was wondering if running the cable outside and along walls toward my room would work, then drilling a hole from outside into my room. Would the heat from the heater be a significant concern? Exposure to sunlight isn’t a big issue because there’s an overhang between the two floors outdoors, which could help with lighting. However, it does get warm in summer, sometimes reaching mid-to-high 90s here on Long Island. If heat becomes a problem, what options do I have?
