I’m working on Windows 10 (upgraded from Windows 7) on a 1TB HDD this holiday. I’m planning to switch to a 500GB SSD, which is smaller than my current 950GB drive. I was thinking of installing Windows on the SSD and keeping the HDD for games. My question is whether I can reuse the same disk I used for Windows 7 after activation, since I already activated it there. I’ve heard activation might be handled by the motherboard, so should I use the old drive or get a new one? Thanks for clarifying—I’m still confused. Got in from school and it’s overwhelming.

You're welcome. If your PC already has Windows installed, you can reuse the same drive without any problems!

Yes, it's possible. You can set up Windows 10 directly on the SSD and start using it right away. Reach out for the most recent installation files.

The system will use the existing activation key unless you need to change it.

When the key is already enabled, you can enter it to access Windows but you’ll need to go through the activation process where you input codes and receive new ones to complete the setup.

You've moved to Windows 10 from Windows 7, and your device is now activated with the "Digital Entitlement." This allows you to install Windows 10 without entering a product key. You should be able to bypass the key prompt. Ensure you install the right edition—Windows 10 Home for previous versions, Windows 10 Pro if you had Professional or Ultimate, and Windows 10 Home if you had Starter, Basic, or Premium. You'll be prompted to choose the installation during setup. I'll send you an ISO file in 40 minutes.
