This wasn't a wise choice early in 2020.

This question has appeared multiple times on the forum before. It originally discussed how to summarize the conversation by purchasing a retail copy of Windows 10 Home, which will prevent future issues.

You can purchase a Win 10 copy for $20. I think Paulshardware has a video about this. You might also try using Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 on a Windows 10 installation. If that doesn’t work, contact Microsoft. When I upgraded after the release of Windows 10, my key wouldn’t activate and they provided me with a new one.

When was the official backing for the free upgrade stopped? Unofficially it continues. Windows 7 is no longer being sold officially. If someone wants to purchase from gray markets, does the choice between 7 or 10 really count?
